Monica L. Borza, D.O., LCDR MC(FS), USN attended Virginia Tech where she graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in biology and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa society. She earned a Health Professions Scholarship through the US Navy to attend the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine where she obtained her medical degree in 2016. After completing a transitional-year internship, she was accepted to the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida and earned her Naval Flight Surgeon wings in 2018. Monica then reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 314, “Black Knights,” at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, where she served as the Flight Surgeon from 2018 to 2020.
Following her first tour in the fleet, Monica was hand-selected to represent the 800,000 men and women of the US Navy and Marine Corps and became the fourth female physician in history to serve as the Flight Surgeon for the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron (Blue Angels). From 2020 to 2022 she directly supported over 6,000 flight hours that resulted in 560 flight demonstrations at 68 cities across the United States and Canada. In addition to her duties, she visited over 40 hospitals and schools to advance the public perception of naval service and inspire future generations. Her exceptional performance and impressive devotion to duty afforded her the highest recognition by the Meritorious Service Medal.
Currently, she is a second-year dermatology resident at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, California. Her special interests are laser skin resurfacing, photodynamic therapy, and laser treatments in skin of color patients.
